Mike is the player who reminds you of your child when he/she is reaching for something on the hot stove.  You know the feeling, you can see the pain that will occur when that child touches the it.

We have spent two years with this type of reaction when Marra shoots.  Hell, we reacted that was twice when Mike barely hit the backboard with 2 of his threes .  You know, “Marra shoots (fans go NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO).”  When Mike shoots, there isn’t even need for a rim.  The reason-the rim is never in play when he shoots.  Either the ball winds up in the bottom of the net or it flies over the backboard.

With all of this being said-a Marracle occurred tonight.  Did he cure disease?  NO.  Did he walk on water?  NO.  He simply performed a Marracle…Yes, the Marracle at Madison Square Garden!  Marra was the best player on the court last night.   The Marracle provided us the spark that was needed to win the game.  Thanks to my man theoriginalmetaphor for coining this saying.

Here are the numbers:

22 points on 7-11 shooting (6-10 from three), 2-2 FTs, 2 Rebounds, 2 Assists, 2 Blocked Shots and 1 steal.  Oh yeah, and many mentions about his ink on the ESPN broadcast.  The announcers even gave his brothers tatoo shop a plug!

Thanks for your effort tonight Mike.  You had a great game.  Hell-you deserved a great game like this.

There is simply no way to explain how horrible the Big East referees are.  It doesn’t matter who is your favorite team-each and every one of you has a story of how one of these decrepit Big East refs cost you a game at some point.

In a weird way, I believe the BE Refs have adversely affected the BE teams in the NCAA tourney for many years.  Face it, our style of basketball has often looked like hockey and/or football.  After playing a season full of hip checks and hard fouls, Big East teams seem to struggle in post season play.  This is what the league allows…it is also probably a reason for bad officiating in big games.  Because of the physical nature of our games, the refs seem to get lazy because of the lower amount of whistles they blow.

Enter the latest punching bags…Jim Burr and Tim Higgins.  Yes, the two guys who look like they should be hanging out in the lobby of an old folk’s home playing checkers instead of chasing elite 18-22 year old athletes down a basketball court.

The bottom line is this:  The NCAA can no longer allow their Billion Dollar entity to be marginalized by bad referees.  It is simply embarrassing that this continues.  The Final Four is the crown jewel and the Big East Basketball Tournament is a close 2nd.  Instead of fans proclaiming the greatness of the BE Tourney, regardless of who wins, this tourney will forever be remembered by the horrible officiating.  What is going to be the highlight reel that is shown on all the sports outlets?  Dunks, threes, last second shots?  No.  What will be shown forever will be the picture of these idiot officials running off the court-WHILE THERE WAS STILL TIME ON THE CLOCK!

Since the Big East has always been proactive with hot button issues-expect things to change.  The time has come for professional officials who are also well-conditioned athletes.   The time has come for anyone who cannot run down the court without looking for an oxygen mask to hang it up.  This time has come because the NCAA can no longer afford to have one of their cash cows made into a laughing-stock because of questionable officiating.  Look for this to start with the Big East.

It has been a long several months but I am happy to report that the student ID issue has been resolved by the ticket office.

My crusade started in June.  With the looming pUKe/UofL game, I thought it would be the appropriate time to start raising questions about the integrity of our student ticket holders.  My fear was-UofL students would sell their tickets to the highest bidders for the big game.

I was out-of-state for the game and gave my tickets to my family to use (UofL fans of course).  When I tuned into the game, I was simply disgusted by the amount of blue in our student section.  The most disgusting aspect of this was, the amount of 50-year-old, blue clad, pUKe fans in our student section.  During the game, I logged in and started my major push to get this issue resolved.  This push included numerous postings in the message boards and calls to each and every radio show in town.

The reason I am so passionate about this issue is because I am a season ticket holder and donor.  It is great that our students got access to premium lower arena seating in the YUM!  It is not great that the students were NOT required to show student ID to get into these seats.

In essence, as of the end of this year, our students had the opportunity to purchase premium seating without the donations that all the other season ticket holders had to shell out.  Because of this, for years, the student ticket policy has allowed enterprising students to get over on the system.

That is until now.  As of the beginning of football season 2011 and basketball season 2011-2012, STUDENT TICKETS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY STUDENT IDS!  If the bearer of these student tickets do not provide ID, they do not gain entry into the venue.  This was the “published” policy this year but it will be enforced moving forward.

This has been a long fight.  I have upset many students.  The bottom line is, there will no longer be people who are not students in our student section.  That makes perfect sense in the greatest arena ever built-filled by the greatest basketball fans in the US.

UofL Basketball got Porcini-ed last night

Posted: February 13, 2010 by Cardchak in Posted by Nathan Arizona

Yep.  I am not sure how to spell that but I think we could call what happened last night as UofL getting “Porcini-ed.”  You know…bent over and sent home like a used up skank that this team has become.

The most comical part of the whole melodrama that has transpired since Ricky P has gotten here is, he is still able to spin reports that, “he is ‘considering’ the NBA.”  The funniest part of that statement is, who in the hell would want him and his antics?

The saddest thing in the past year is this.  Pitino has become very similar to a BList Hollywood celebrity.  You know…someone like Screech or Paris Hilton or any of those idiot Baldwin brothers.  Just when they see their star starting to fade, they do something stupid to get back into the news.  UofL fans have dealt with this a lot in the recent past.  Remember the NBA rumors last year?  What about Arizona, Providence, St. Johns, etc.?

Well, let’s deal with the truth.  This coach is to blame for the disaster that has ensued this year.   The off court issues have cost in recruiting, game planning and game coaching.  Rick took his eye off the ball-because his brain was on his…never mind.  Ever since the woman (who would have been worth it 25 years ago) danced…or bent into our lives, UofL basketball has been a living Hell.  Who can say that it didn’t adversely affect us last year?  It is an absolute miracle that we won THAT game at West Virginia last year considering KS sent her demands to him that morning.

In parting, there is one major issue that is pissing me off.  That is the Freedom Hall issue.  A venue in which I have attended games since I was a baby.  This coach, his minions and his horrible judgement may have prolonged Freedom Hall’s life with the CARDS.  How happy are the people who bought scalped tickets for the season finale with Syracuse?  How happy are they knowing the last official game in Freedom Hall maybe against Virginia Commonwealth or Idaho State School for Highway Workers or some other pathetic NIT team?

I could go on about the horrible play of our horrible seniors.  The horrible leadership, etc.  I won’t .  The bottom line is, this program stinks right now-and it stinks from the top down.
