Former Ohio State Heisman winning running back Eddie George told a Nashville radio show yesterday that he thought the Buckeyes should go after Louisville head coach Charlie Strong as a replacement for recently departed Jim Tressel.

Eddie George also says he’s pushing for Charlie Strong to get a serious look at Ohio State.
The remark has sparked fear through the hearts of Louisville on message boards who are having flashbacks of the departure of Bobby Petrino still in 2006.  Strong was impressive in turning around Louisville football last year. Going 7-6 overall and winning the Cards first bowl game (Beef-O-Brady’s Bowl) since the Orange Bowl victory in 2006.
While Louisville fans are showing some fear of already losing their still relatively new football coach, Ohio State message boards are feeling the complete opposite about having Strong as their next coach.
  •  LOL I don’t even know who the F he is. I’ve heard the name but don’t know who he is or where he’s coached. LOL!

While other Buckeye fans on the threads seemed to think interim head coach Luke Fickell would be just as good if not better than last seasons Co-Big East Coach of the Year winner Charlie Strong.

Personally I would be shocked if Ohio State went after coach Strong after just his first season as a head coach. Would Strong be a great hire for the Buckeyes? Yes, he would. I think Charlie would be successful in Columbus and with his ability to recruit already to a program like Louisville, he (Strong) would have a field day being able to lure top recruits to Ohio State. That being said though I don’t see Ohio State wanting to go after anyone short of a “blow your mind” caliber name for their next full-time head coach.

Of course Jim Tressel was anything but that type of name when the Buckeyes brought him in to replace John Cooper in 2001. Tressel had spent the last fourteen seasons as the head coach at division II  Youngstown State before landing in Columbus but had been a position coach for Ohio State (’83-’85) prior to his great run in Youngstown State.

That being said it could come as no shock for Ohio State to go after a coach without the “grab you” name with only one year as a head coach under his belt. I suppose time will tell and Cardinal fans will have to just hold their breath and sweat it out till then.
