Last night Rick Pitino got the news that he and the Louisville Cardinals lost out on 2011 recruit Kevin Ware to of all places Central Florida. Today the bad news continued as 2012 four-star recruit Negus Webster-Chan backed off his commitment to the Cards.

Webster-Chan, a 6’6 four-star small forward from Huntington Prep High School had committed to Louisville last fall but today announced he would reopen his recruitment process. Which is never a good sign for the original school. He will visit five schools before making a decision in the spring according to his coach Rob Fulford.

“This was a very difficult decision for him to make,” Fulford said.

“But at this time, Negus and his family feel this is in his best interest.”

Both these stories came to Louisville along with the news that  star 2011 recruit Wayne Blackshear will not play in the Derby Festival Classic this weekend. Blackshear hurt his shoulder during a practice for the McDonalds All-American game last month and has decided to sit out the local event. Blackshear will have surgery on the injured left shoulder and will start rehabilitation in a week or two.

Blackshear told the Courier-Journal’s Jody Demling

“I am really disappointed. I really wanted to be there. It’s in the new arena, and all the fans are coming out to see us play.”

“I’m disappointed but I’ll be OK. They cleaned it out, and it’s going to be fine. I’ll be 100 percent once I go through rehabilitation.”

With the recent bad news in recruiting for the Cards all Louisville fans are still holding their breath with still the possible decommitment of another 2012 player, Rodney Purvis.
