At least there's still the NBA...

Usually, it is hard to stomach the fact that basketball season is over. However, there are a lot of things going on around the Sports Buzz area that will keep us busy into the summer.

The Masters – It’s always fun to sit around on Masters Sunday with a beverage of your choice and the subtle tones of Jim Nantz over some soft piano music. It is Super Bowl Sunday for anyone that even remotely enjoys the game of golf. Also, a great hangover cure if you have been sick watching basketball after your team took a bad loss.

UK/UL Spring Games – Charlie and Joker take their teams to the field for a inter-squad scrimmage on April 15th & 23rd respectively. Both fan-bases are very curious how each team will react after the ending of their seasons. UK did not meet expectation and fans want to see some improvement under the 2nd year coach. Louisville exceeded expectations and lost 27 seniors off a bowl-winning team. Morgan newton takes the reins at QB for the blue and possibly freshman sensation Teddy Bridgewater for the red.

Derby Classic Basketball Game – Three weeks from now brings an event that brings some of the best recruits in the country into the brand new Yum! Center. This year, Louisville is well represented with all 4 signees present and a possible 5th playing in front of the Cardinal faithful. 6-5 SG Kevin Ware signed with Tennessee, but was released to go anywhere after the firing of Bruce Pearl a few weeks back. Ware has been quoted as having strong interest in Louisville, but word is UK is interested as well. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out leading up to and after the game.

Kentucky Derby Weekend – That’s right, folks. the Derby is only a month away so catch up on your sleep and prepare your livers. I’m not going to pretend like I know anything about horses, but the spectacle of the Derby is matched by very few (if any) events in sports. If you haven’t been to the infield for the first Saturday in May, I don’t know what to say to you other than you’ve missed out on a great time. One month. You have been warned.

Today on the Sports Buzz…

Scout.com National Recruiting Director, Evan Daniels, will join the crew to talk about the Kevin Ware situation, what he thinks of all the Cards and Cats coming in town next year, and what to expect in the upcoming Derby Classic. Call in with any questions for Greg Brohm, Chip Cosby or Evan Daniels at 502.571.1080 or 877.904.1080.

This Day in Sports…

April 7, 2008 – After leading by 9 with 2:12 left in the game, John Calipari and his Memphis Tigers were bitten again by the free throws that had haunted them all year. Derrick Rose hit one of two FTs to put his Tigers up 3 with 10.8 seconds. That was enough time for Mario Chalmers of the Kansas Jayhawks to hit a 3 to send the game to OT. Kansas would prevail in the extra period, giving them the national championship.
