Bacon Bits: Got to love the ladies

While Louisville Cardinal fans are still sad about that much to early exit by the men in the NCAA tournament. Stop your crying cause the Lady Cards are still alive to keep your spirits up.

Louisville as a #7 seed took care of business in their first round game defeating Vanderbilt 81-62 and then on Tuesday night eliminated the #2 seeded Xavier Musketeers 85-75. The Lady Cards were led by star Freshman Shoni  “Show”  Schimmel’s career-high 33 points. Junior and Louisville native Monique Reid added 13 points.

All the hype though has been around the lady her teammates refer to as “Show”. Shoni Schimmel came to the Lady Cards as a big time recruit from Franklin High School in Portland, Oregon. She was ranked 8th overall in her class and 3rd at her position. All that hype has not gone without reason. Shimmel was second on the team this year in scoring at 15 points per game.

This is nothing new to Louisville head coach Jeff Walz, who now have the Lady Cards in their third sweet sixteen in just his fourth season on the bench. He has already led the Lady Cards to the national title game in 2009 and despite missing the tournament last season is now just two wins away from his second final four in four years.

Louisville will meet #11 seeded Gonzaga, who has pulled off an upset of their own. Knocking of #3 seeded UCLA to get to this point.
