Pearl out at Tennessee

According to sources close to writer Gary Parrish, Tennessee will let head coach Bruce Pearl go with-in the next twenty-four hours. Ending the best six-year run in Volunteers mens basketball history and right before they get hit with their worse NCAA sanctions in men’s basketball history.

Tennessee is facing up to seven major violation this off-season, while Pearl was facing charges of unethical conduct. Pearl lied to the big wigs in the NCAA offices earlier in the year about recruiting violations involving current Ohio State point guard Aaron Craft and others.

Tennessee has already begun a search for a new head coach according to reports. The big question i though…Will they find another coach that was anywhere near as successful as Bruce Pearl was?

Between 1909 to 2006, the year Bruce Pearl was hired away from UW-Milwaukee, Tennessee had just 16 season of at least 20 wins. Pearl won 20 or more in five of his six season. Tennessee had one season in that  ninety-seven year span in which they had a team win 23 games or more ( 26 in 2000 ). Bruce Pearl completed this feat three times ( 24 in ’07, 31 in ’08, and 28 in 2010 )in his six years. Pearl was the only coach to take Tennessee to the tournament in every year as a coach in Knoxville. Jerry Green accomplished the feat between 1998-2001 as well. Pearl was the only coach in Vols history to take Tennessee to six consecutive tournaments.
