Several thing went down on this day in the history of sports. Joe “Cool Pappa” Bell was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame (1974), Rocky Marciano won his 39th straight bout defeating Lee Savold (1952), and the NFL’s Boston Redskins made the move tho Washington DC (1937). All great things but the NBA lover in me had to go with a tie between to evens…the NBA All-Star game.
It was tough to pick between two different years that landed on today so I went with both. First was the 1983 game in Los Angles were the East beat the West 132-123 but that was a side-show to Marvin Gaye’s rendition of the National Anthem.
Also today back in 1994 the NBA All-Star game made their first trip to Minnesota when the East knocked off the West 127-118. Maybe the best part of this flashback isn’t seeing John Stockton, Michael Jordan, or a very young Shaq but seeing a skinny crack free Shawn Kemp.
