Cats Looking To Stay Perfect But Arkansas Has Their Mojo Back

Kentucky fans were thrilled to watch Texas fall earlier this week, leaving the Cats as the lone undefeated team remaining in college basketball this season. Kentucky fans are excited because UK will be a lock for a #1 ranking when the polls come out on Monday. Their first #1 ranking in over six years but hopefully somebody in Lexington has let the University of Arkansas know this game is already over cause this isn’t the same Arkansas team UK fans saw get beat by Louisville by 30 earlier this season.

Arkansas has struggled this season under 2nd year coach and former Kentucky legend John Pelphry. A  2-7 start to the season after several Razorbacks were suspended due to different reasons and this team looked as if  it were  headed for a very very long season.  Arkansas would bounce back with a five game winning streak though after that, only to lose back-to-back games going into an out of conference showdown with Texas.

What makes the Texas 96-85 loss special other then putting in a good effort? That would be it also was the return of star and do it all point guard Courtney Fortson.

Thats not Whoopi Goldberg but Courtney Fortson with hair as long as his potential is great

While Arkansas may only be 1-3 since his return, the Razorbacks have losses to #1 Texas, @ Mississippi St (82-80), and Florida (71-66) but also have a good wion over Alabama.

Fortson is to Arkansas, what mojo is to Austin Powers. He is averaging 16.3 points, 8.3 assists, and 3.8 rebounds a game. His presence on the court and his ability to not only score but give his teammates better looks makes this team a scary match up.

As good as Fortson is though, he is no where good enough by himself to beat a team as loaded as Kentucky. While Cat fans know the name Rotnei Clark as a deadly shooter that can score in bunches, they need to keep an eye on big man Michael Washington.

The Senior had 14 points and 8 rebounds in a loss to UK last year

The 6’9 starting center will have his hands full with ever improving UK big man DeMarcus Cousins but Washinton must contribute on both the boards and defence for the Razorback to pull off in upset. Arkansas has not lost this year (3-0) when he gets a double-double. He had 16 points and 7 rebounds in the loss versus a talented Mississippi State frontline. Washington played well against Texas with 14 points but only collected 2 rebounds and Arkansas can not win with his rebounding numbers that low.

Kentucky fans should not have to worry here but as they have seen the life of a fan of a freshman loaded team, no game can  be “completely” overlooked.
