Man United went top of the table with some breathing room on Liverpool after a 3-0 victory against Fulham at Old Trafford earlier this afternoon.  The game today puts United even on games with Liverpool and are on the top of the table with a 5 point lead over their rivals 40 miles or so to the East.   Goals by Scholes, Berbatov, and a returning Wayne Rooney who hasn’t played in 7 games because of a hamstring issue did in the West London outfit.

United’s man between the sticks Edwin Van der Sar continued his record setting pace of 1,302 minutes or 14 games in a row without having given up a goal in league play.  The last league game that United gave up was all the way back in the middle of September to Arsenal.  If Van der Sar doesn’t give up a goal against Blackburn for 89 minutes at Old Trafford on Saturday, he will eclipse the European record of Club Brugge stalwart Dany Verlinden, who went 1,390 minutes without giving up a goal in 1990.

United hosts Blackburn on Saturday in a game that can be seen on Fox Soccer Channel at 12:30pm eastern.   Liverpool hosts Manchester City on Sunday morning at 10am in a game that can also be seen on FSC.

Here is the league table as things stand now with only 13 games left to play in the league:
